Lead Compliance Risk Manager, Product Compliance – AI

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +4 more locations.

📋 Description

• Act as the subject matter expert and principal compliance advisor for Mercury’s AI and agentic products, which include Command, API, MCP, and CLI.

• Collaborate with teams from Product, Engineering, Risk, Data, Operations, and Legal to ensure compliant market introduction of AI products.

• Provide guidance to product and engineering teams during the phases of discovery, design, evaluation, launch, and iteration.

• Identify, evaluate, and document compliance risks associated with AI and agentic systems, along with designing strategies for mitigation.

• Establish compliance requirements for AI infrastructure, which encompasses the LLM gateway, internal application platform, agent orchestration frameworks, and data access layer.

• Develop and refine compliance standards specific to AI, including evidence requirements, logging standards, criteria for human review, escalation paths, and activities that fall outside acceptable bounds.

• Assist with product launches, expansions, co-marketing initiatives, and partnerships with third-party AI platforms.

• Keep track of regulatory, supervisory, and industry developments related to AI and implement necessary changes.

• Manage multiple high-impact AI compliance workstreams concurrently and ensure they align with the company's objectives.

• Lead remediation initiatives, including conducting root cause analyses, planning corrective actions, and tracking execution.

• Collaborate with executives, compliance teams from partner banks, and external advisors on significant AI-related decisions.

• Aid in the development of policies, documentation standards, audit preparations, and interactions with examiners.

• Mentor compliance colleagues and create scalable compliance tools, templates, and frameworks.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience in a compliance advisory, product compliance, or regulatory risk role, preferably within the fintech or financial services sectors.

• Proven experience in advising on AI, machine learning, or model-driven products in a regulated environment, or relevant experience in establishing a new compliance domain.

• Familiarity with UDAAP, fair lending and ECOA/Reg B, FCRA and adverse action, Reg E and payment authorization, BSA/AML, GLBA and privacy, marketing and disclosure requirements, recordkeeping, complaint management, model risk management expectations, and guidance on third-party and vendor risk management.

• Understanding of the NIST AI Risk Management Framework and state laws pertaining to AI and automated decision-making.

• Technical proficiency in model behavior, evaluation and testing, agent permissioning and tool scoping, logging and observability, and data access controls.

• Extensive experience working with product and engineering teams on regulatory and compliance issues throughout the product lifecycle.

• Demonstrated capability to tackle ambiguous, large-scale compliance challenges and to devise and implement strategies proactively.

• Experience in designing compliance frameworks that span multiple product lines or departments.

• Proven track record of engaging with executives, partner banks, auditors, or regulators and providing data-driven recommendations.

• Strong project management abilities, including problem definition, execution planning, managing multiple high-impact initiatives, and driving results.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

• Experience in mentoring mid-level compliance professionals.

• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced and ambiguous environment.

• A sense of curiosity, adaptability, and a genuine interest in frontier technology and regulatory challenges.
