
Lead Climate Scientist – Sales and Advisory

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.
• Oversee client engagements with a defined scope from start to finish, including project scoping, contributing to proposals, adhering to timelines and budgets, and presenting results to senior client stakeholders.
• Collaborate with the Director of Climate Science and Policy on major advisory projects and take ownership of significant workstreams.
• Develop expertise in policies and standards that govern corporate purchasers, such as the SBTi Corporate Net Zero Standard v2, UK and EU compliance frameworks, and greenhouse gas removal standards.
• Generate assessment reports, strategy documents, portfolio and pricing models, as well as summaries suitable for board presentations.
• Assist in sales and marketing efforts that promote climate thought leadership and educate potential Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) buyers.
• Foster relationships with CDR buyers, aid in CDR portfolio development, and share valuable market insights.
• Keep up-to-date with CDR project suppliers and the latest scientific advancements in climate science.
• Guide external associates and junior team members throughout engagements.
• Gradually assume leadership of larger and more intricate advisory projects.
• Contribute to the growth of Supercritical's advisory practice from its initial engagements.
• MSc Degree or higher in chemical engineering, environmental science, or a relevant natural science such as chemistry; OR a BEng/BSc with pertinent work experience (e.g., 5+ years).
• Advanced knowledge in carbon dioxide removal (CDR), including thorough understanding of various engineered CDR pathways such as biochar, BECCS, mineralization, ERW, and DACCS.
• Proven experience in delivering client-facing consulting, advisory, or commissioned research projects.
• Experience in managing a deliverable within a deadline for an external client.
• Background in the climate and sustainability sector.
• Prior experience in a client-facing role or engaging with industrial stakeholders.
• Exceptional written communication skills.
• Strong communication capabilities and a passion for clear scientific dialogue.
• Comfortable with defining advisory engagements, estimating efforts, and maintaining scope during project execution.
• Resilient and adaptable in the face of uncertainty.
• Inquisitive and possess a broad understanding of carbon, climate, and sustainability topics.
• High attention to detail.
• Eagerness to learn and openness to training opportunities.
• Strong analytical skills.
• Proficient in Excel/spreadsheets.
• Familiarity with policies and standards pertinent to corporate buyers, such as SBTi, GHG Protocol, EU or UK ETS, BSI Flex, Puro.earth, or Isometric.
• PhD in a relevant field (preferred).
• Experience in a consultancy, engineering firm, or research program selling services to external clients (preferred).
• Experience in managing subcontractors, associates, or junior team members (preferred).
• Published research or contributions to standards, methodologies, or governmental evidence (preferred).
• Candidates located outside the UK must be within 3 hours of GMT/BST, willing to travel to London quarterly, and able to utilize an Employer of Record arrangement.
• UK sponsorship is not available.
