This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Europe.
• Take charge of the Taxes module within the Billing team.
• Define the architecture and technical strategy for tax calculation and reporting procedures.
• Lead integrations with external tax providers and manage technical partnerships.
• Enhance system resilience, uptime, and scalability across services.
• Make critical architectural decisions and set engineering standards and best practices.
• Lead, mentor, and develop the engineering team.
• Contribute to the hiring process as the team expands.
• Deliver essential tax functionality in the initial months.
• Establish a solid technical foundation and engineering practices for future product and team development.
• Advocate for automated unit, integration, functional, and end-to-end testing.
• 4+ years of backend engineering experience in Go, PHP, Kotlin, Java, or Python.
• Demonstrated experience in designing and managing high-load, distributed systems.
• Strong hands-on expertise with PostgreSQL.
• Solid background with queues or streams.
• Experience with unit, integration, functional, and end-to-end testing.
• Experience in mentoring engineers and establishing technical direction.
• Proactive, independent, results-oriented mindset with a strong sense of ownership.
• Kafka experience is a plus.
• Familiarity with AWS services is a plus.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines is a plus.
• Background in fintech, payments, or the financial domain is a plus.
• Understanding of VAT, GST, or Sales Tax is a plus.
• Experience in managing or leading teams is a plus.
