This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Utah.
• Develop the AI engineering roadmap and establish architectural standards throughout the organization.
• Lead decisions regarding build, buy, or integration of AI systems and platforms.
• Assess emerging tools, frameworks, and models, providing leadership with informed recommendations.
• Act as the primary technical escalation point for intricate AI/ML system design issues.
• Design AI solutions for the enterprise platform, covering both process and foundational platform architecture layers.
• Create systems that prioritize scalability, reliability, and cost-effectiveness in production settings.
• Implement LLMOps practices, including evaluation and regression testing, cost and quality monitoring, versioned prompts and configurations, staged rollout and rollback, and production safeguards.
• Ensure seamless integration of AI systems with existing product and engineering infrastructure.
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering leadership to ensure AI capabilities align with business objectives.
• Facilitate cross-functional engagement while emphasizing technical leadership and decision-making.
• Direct resource allocation and engagement sequencing.
• Simplify complex technical concepts for executives and business stakeholders.
• Question methods that may jeopardize long-term system integrity.
• Advocate for and implement AI-assisted coding practices and developer tools across engineering.
• Establish standards for responsible AI development, including guardrails, evaluation frameworks, and security considerations.
• Promote continuous enhancement in the development and deployment of AI-powered features.
• Execute additional responsibilities as needed, directed, or assigned.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• Over 5 years of software engineering experience, with significant involvement in production AI/ML or LLM/GenAI systems.
• At least 2 years of experience in building production LLM/GenAI and agentic systems.
• Proficiency with AI-assisted coding tools and the acumen to establish organization-wide standards, evaluations, and safeguards for AI-generated code.
• Proven experience in redesigning an existing business process centered around AI within an enterprise environment, delivering it to production and taking ownership of the outcomes.
• Hands-on experience with LLM/GenAI and agentic systems, including agent orchestration, tool invocation, RAG, and structured outputs.
• Sound judgment regarding appropriate and inappropriate AI applications in customer-facing, research, policy compliance, financial transactions, and regulatory processes.
• Experience in making and communicating organizational decisions regarding build, buy, or integration.
• Proficient in Python and the contemporary GenAI application stack, including agent and orchestration frameworks, model-provider SDKs, vector databases, and evaluation tools.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
• Preferred: Direct experience in redesigning legacy processes with the authority to modify underlying platform architecture.
• Preferred: Experience in enterprise or regulated domains, ideally within insurance or financial services.
• Preferred: Experience as a technical lead or principal engineer with broad organizational influence.
• Preferred: Experience collaborating closely with product engineering teams in a dual-track agile framework.
• Preferred: Familiarity with AI cost management, observability, and governance frameworks.
