This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Philippines.
• Perform comprehensive policy and legal research and analysis concerning forest governance, the rights of Indigenous Peoples and local communities (IPLCs), biodiversity conservation, and watershed management.
• Collaborate with the line manager to devise, plan, and facilitate the implementation of ClientEarth’s strategic objectives in the Philippines.
• Offer country-specific insights, identify risks, and share lessons learned while ensuring consistency with regional and global strategies.
• Establish and sustain relationships with government bodies, industry leaders, civil society organizations, and donors in the Philippines.
• Contribute to ClientEarth’s Food, Ocean, and Land Use (FOLU) program in Japan and Southeast Asia.
• Promote advancements in forest governance, particularly in the areas of social forestry, community-based natural resource management, and biodiversity conservation.
• Enhance engagement among government entities, CSOs, and IPLCs through research, legal and policy analysis, stakeholder engagement, and capacity building.
• Assist IPLCs in attaining sustainable livelihoods while safeguarding natural ecosystems and biodiversity.
• Engage with ASEAN at the regional level to bolster forest governance.
• Licensed attorney in the Philippines.
• Proficient in Filipino and English (CEFR level C2).
• Relevant legal qualification recognized in the Philippines.
• Familiarity with community-based natural resource management, forest governance, IPLC rights, environmental protection, and related watershed management challenges.
• Experience in developing legal research and analysis pertaining to the governance of forests and natural resources in the Philippines.
• Understanding of formal and informal relationships and working methods with policymakers, regulators, CSOs, networks, and traditional knowledge custodians in the Philippines.
• Pre-existing legal right to work in the countries mentioned at the beginning of the job advertisement.
