This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Perform original research and analysis on topics related to election policy.
• Acquire comprehensive knowledge of election administration policies and procedures across all 50 states, including changes in policy, discussions, and litigation.
• Recognize when current events necessitate updates to Ballotpedia articles.
• Spot opportunities for new articles and analysis on election policy.
• Create and manage assigned articles in accordance with established writing guidelines and quality standards.
• Contribute to Ballotpedia’s Election Policy Legislation Tracker.
• Keep track of breaking news daily and update articles promptly.
• Develop new articles in response to emerging news stories.
• Contribute to Ballotpedia newsletter initiatives.
• Utilize and produce complex procedure checklist documentation.
• Maintain communication with the managing editor regarding project progress.
• Learn and apply Ballotpedia’s taxonomy of bias.
• Engage professionally with colleagues, clients, and the media.
• Write in a neutral, clear, concise, accurate, and comprehensive manner about intricate subjects.
• Strong passion for Ballotpedia’s mission.
• Solid understanding of the political system in the United States.
• Personal interest in U.S. election policy.
• Experience in professional or academic writing or legislative research.
• Proficiency in using spreadsheets for managing large datasets.
• Exceptional organizational abilities and meticulous attention to detail.
• Willingness and capability to work collaboratively with staff from various departments.
• Comfort with seeking and responding to feedback.
• Motivation for innovation and adaptability.
• Ability to proactively identify and resolve issues.
