• Address the evolving health habits of Americans

• Investigate the nation's strengths and weaknesses concerning nutrition, exercise, sleep, smoking, alcohol consumption, and indulgence

• Move past mere service-style analysis or debunking to explore the shifting definition of a healthy lifestyle in the United States

• Keep track of new trends in health and wellness

• Evaluate claims made by experts and self-proclaimed authorities seeking to exert influence

• Analyze scientific research and report on changing policies

• Build and maintain relationships with key figures and sources

• Create and propose story ideas

• Cover urgent news and produce significant long-term projects

• Contribute to important topics and current events

⛳️ Requirements

• Significant experience in reporting and writing for a diverse audience on health, wellness, and/or scientific topics

• Proven ability to cultivate sources, recognize emerging trends, and lead national discussions on health issues

• Proficient understanding of scientific principles and an excellent capability to evaluate the quality of scientific research

• Outstanding writing talent and a keen sense for magazine-style content

• A wealth of story ideas, a strong desire to pitch, and a passion for engaging with major topics and current events

• Capacity to balance urgent reporting with substantial long-term projects

• Availability to work nights, early mornings, and weekends as required

• Successful completion of reference checks

• Adherence to The Atlantic's COVID-19 vaccination policy and submission of proof of vaccination status
