Law Clerk

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona, +2 more states.

📋 Description

• Assist in the conservation of threatened species and public lands across Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah's Colorado Plateau.

• Contribute to impact litigation and engage in administrative and policy advocacy to tackle significant threats to at-risk species while advancing program initiatives.

• Conduct comprehensive legal research and drafting.

• Prepare legal memoranda, aid in brief writing, handle filings, investigate new projects, and draft public comments.

• Review administrative regulations and various policy proposals.

• Collaborate with a wide array of coalitions and partners.

• Analyze federal and state legislation pertaining to endangered species, public lands, and environmental protection.

• Possibly observe court arguments or agency proceedings.

• Execute other job-related responsibilities as assigned.

• Engage directly in the field in the areas protected by the Center.

⛳️ Requirements

• Must have completed at least one year of law school by the time of application.

• Possess strong legal research and writing abilities.

• Demonstrate a deep passion for protecting wildlife and their habitats in the Southwestern United States.

• Exhibit a commitment to equity and justice.

• Preferred background or experience in natural resources, environmental, and/or administrative law.

• Scientific literacy is preferred.

• Strong work ethic, along with excellent time management and organizational skills.

• Display creativity and motivation.

• Ability to work full-time, typically Monday through Friday, with occasional evening and weekend hours required to meet deadlines.

• Submit a cover letter, resume, writing sample (preferably no more than 10 pages), transcript, and a list of three references.
