Laser Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Set up, align, and carry out assigned Focused Energy Lasers Austin experiments.

• Configure laser front ends.

• Conduct two-dimensional SSD, frequency tripling, FM-AM, and main amplifier characterization experiments.

• Lead troubleshooting efforts at the bench level.

• Manage the daily experimental schedule and ensure timely execution of experiments according to the facility build-out plan.

• Adhere to all laser safety protocols and laboratory safety standards in Class 3B/4 environments.

• Create and maintain organized laboratory records, alignment logs, equipment status records, and experimental data.

• Enhance experimental setups and procedures based on practical experience.

• Collaborate with laser scientists during joint experimental sessions.

• Develop repeatable, well-documented setups to scale the facility’s experimental program.

⛳️ Requirements

• Practical experience with fiber and free-space laser systems.

• Knowledge of nonlinear optics, including frequency conversion and beam smoothing.

• Proficiency in laser beam characterization.

• Experience with optical alignment and diagnostics.

• Capability to work independently on bench-level setup, alignment, and troubleshooting.

• Ability to identify when to escalate genuinely challenging problems.

• Systematic and methodical approach to experimental work.

• Strong habits in lab notebook keeping and data documentation.

• Familiarity with ANSI Z136 laser safety standards.

• Experience operating safely in Class 3B/4 laser environments.

• Clear and proactive communication skills, along with issue escalation ability.

• Preferred: Knowledge of laser modeling software such as Miro and Zemax.

• Preferred: Familiarity with CAD tools like Inventor.
