Junior Appian Developer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, enhance, and maintain Appian applications that support intricate business and operational workflows.

• Aid in the remediation, conversion, and modernization of custom Appian plugins to ensure compliance with updated platform standards and compatibility needs.

• Diagnose and resolve issues related to custom plugins, integrations, and the functionality of Appian applications.

• Collaborate with architects and senior developers to create scalable and maintainable technical solutions.

• Assist with Appian platform upgrades and associated application modernization activities.

• Support the development and maintenance of reusable components, shared services, and integration frameworks.

• Engage in technical design discussions, code reviews, and solution implementation tasks.

• Create and maintain technical documentation, deployment instructions, and support materials.

• Facilitate integration efforts involving APIs, web services, databases, and external systems.

• Write and optimize SQL queries to enhance application functionality and meet reporting requirements.

• Ensure that development activities conform to coding standards, security policies, and best practices.

• Work with QA teams to assist in defect resolution, testing activities, and ensuring deployment readiness.

• Participate in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily standups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.

• Collaborate with Scrum Masters, Business Analysts, developers, QA teams, and stakeholders to achieve successful delivery outcomes.

• Assist in estimation, technical planning, and coordination of delivery activities.

• Support troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and issue resolution across development and testing environments.

• Contribute to a collaborative team atmosphere focused on continuous improvement and quality delivery.

• Assist with application modernization initiatives in complex Appian environments.

• Help with plugin remediation, reducing technical debt, and optimizing the platform.

• Identify opportunities to enhance development efficiency, maintainability, and operational stability.

• Stay updated on Appian platform enhancements, development best practices, and emerging capabilities.

• Promote knowledge-sharing initiatives within the wider Appian practice, including insights into Appian AI capabilities where relevant.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 3 years of professional software development experience.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

• At least 2 years of hands-on Appian development experience.

• Experience in supporting Appian application development in Agile software delivery settings.

• Familiarity with custom Appian plugins, Java-based development, or integration components.

• Strong understanding of software development lifecycle methodologies and secure coding practices.

• Proficiency in working with relational databases and writing SQL queries.

• Experience with Git/GitLab or similar source control systems.

• Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Capacity to work independently and effectively collaborate within cross-functional Agile teams.

• Successful candidates will undergo a background investigation by the government and must meet the requirements to hold a position of public trust.

• Preferred: Over 4 years of professional software development experience.

• Preferred: Appian Certified Associate Developer or Appian Certified Senior Developer certification.

• Preferred: Experience supporting Appian platform upgrades, plugin remediation, or modernization projects.

• Preferred: Experience in developing or maintaining custom Appian plugins using Java.

• Preferred: Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Jenkins, Docker, or containerized deployment strategies.

• Preferred: Experience supporting AWS-hosted or cloud-based application environments.

• Preferred: Understanding of REST/SOAP integrations and API development.

• Preferred: Exposure to Kubernetes or container orchestration platforms.

• Preferred: Familiarity with Appian AI capabilities, AI Skills, AI Copilot, AI Document Processing, or other emerging features of the Appian platform.

• Preferred: Experience in supporting federal government or public sector technology initiatives.

• Preferred: Experience contributing to knowledge transfer and cross-team collaboration in technical settings.
