Java Tech Lead

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Bulgaria.

📋 Description

• Lead technical conversations, make architectural choices, and guide the engineering team through AI-driven product initiatives.

• Design, implement, and enhance scalable backend functionality utilizing Java, Spring, and AWS.

• Take responsibility for frontend feature delivery using TypeScript along with Angular or React.

• Spearhead the implementation of AI chatbot features, data quality enhancements, and dynamic reporting capabilities.

• Utilize and advocate for AI developer tools such as Cursor and Claude.

• Maintain code quality through unit, integration, and end-to-end testing processes.

• Conduct peer code evaluations and address performance-related issues.

• Collaborate effectively with Product Owners, UX/UI designers, DevOps, and other engineering teams.

• Contribute to BigPicture, a sophisticated cloud-based SaaS application comprising over 100 modules with Domain-Driven Design.

• Engage with various architectures including hexagonal, event-driven, pipes-and-filters, modular monoliths, and microservices.

• Support systems catering to thousands of tenants.

• Report directly to the Engineering Manager.

⛳️ Requirements

• Demonstrated experience in a Tech Lead role, guiding technical direction, making architectural decisions, and mentoring senior and mid-level engineers.

• In-depth, practical expertise in Java, Spring, Hibernate, and SQL.

• Strong comprehension of SaaS architecture and substantial experience in building and scaling applications in cloud environments, particularly AWS.

• Proficient in TypeScript and Angular or React, with a willingness to develop full-stack features.

• Comfortable engaging with AI technologies and skilled in AI-assisted development practices, specifically using Cursor and Copilot.

• Interest or experience in implementing AI features such as LLM integration and data indexing.

• Familiarity with SOLID principles and common design patterns.

• Proficient in JUnit/Spock, Git, Maven, and Docker.

• Experience in evolving and scaling established systems beyond greenfield projects.

• Ability to utilize profiling tools and focus on creating efficient code under load.

• Strong communication skills in remote or hybrid settings using Slack, Zoom, and G Suite.

• Skills in coaching, mentoring, and fostering people development.

• Willingness to attend occasional in-person events.
