This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Oversee the investigation and resolution of intricate Java performance challenges across application code, JVM, middleware, databases, operating systems, infrastructure, and external dependencies.
• Examine JVM and application behavior, focusing on memory usage, garbage collection, threading, concurrency, CPU consumption, connection management, application-server configuration, latency, and throughput.
• Employ profiling, observability, thread dumps, heap dumps, database analysis, and various diagnostic methods to determine root causes.
• Suggest enhancements for scalability, stability, and resource efficiency.
• Assess application architecture and design scalable, maintainable, high-performance Java solutions across traditional, distributed, cloud, and modernized environments.
• Facilitate technical discovery sessions, architecture workshops, performance evaluations, and solution-design discussions with clients and internal teams.
• Generate and present technical insights, architecture recommendations, root-cause analyses, remediation strategies, and implementation roadmaps.
• Act as a senior technical escalation point throughout the delivery process.
• Collaborate directly with clients and internal teams to communicate findings, propose architectural improvements, and support implementation until completion.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Over 10 years of experience in designing, developing, troubleshooting, and architecting complex enterprise applications.
• Proven experience in a senior architecture, principal engineering, or technical leadership position.
• Extensive hands-on experience with Java and JVM performance optimization, including memory management, garbage collection, threading, concurrency, heap/thread analysis, JVM tuning, profiling, latency, and throughput.
• Familiarity with enterprise Java frameworks and application servers such as Spring/Spring Boot, WebSphere, WebLogic, JBoss/WildFly, Tomcat, Open Liberty, or similar technologies.
• Strong experience in diagnosing production performance issues across application code, JVM, middleware, database, operating system, infrastructure, and network dependencies.
• Proficient in application performance monitoring, observability, and diagnostic tools such as Dynatrace, AppDynamics, New Relic, Datadog, Splunk, Java Flight Recorder, Java Mission Control, VisualVM, or equivalent tools.
• Solid understanding of database performance, scalability, capacity planning, resource utilization, and application-to-database interactions.
• Excellent client-facing communication, technical documentation, presentation, problem-solving, and stakeholder-management abilities.
• Preferred: experience in supporting high-volume, low-latency, transaction-intensive, or mission-critical Java applications.
• Preferred: experience with distributed systems, microservices, APIs, cloud platforms, Docker, Kubernetes, or hybrid-cloud architectures.
• Preferred: experience with performance and load-testing tools such as JMeter, Gatling, LoadRunner, or similar technologies.
• Preferred: experience with enterprise databases such as DB2, Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or similar platforms.
• Preferred: experience in application modernization, platform transformation, DevOps, SRE, or production-support environments.
• Preferred: experience working in consulting, professional services, or client-facing delivery environments.
