This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Oversee the investigation and resolution of intricate Java performance incidents throughout the entire technology stack.
• Examine JVM and application functionality, focusing on memory, garbage collection, threading, concurrency, CPU usage, connections, latency, and throughput.
• Employ profiling, observability, thread dumps, heap dumps, and database analysis to determine underlying issues.
• Evaluate application architecture and design scalable, maintainable, and high-performance Java solutions in traditional, distributed, cloud, and modernized environments.
• Lead technical scoping sessions, architecture workshops, performance audits, and design reviews with clients and internal teams.
• Create and deliver technical summaries, architectural suggestions, root-cause analyses, remediation strategies, and deployment roadmaps.
• Act as a senior technical escalation point throughout the delivery lifecycle.
• Collaborate directly with clients and internal teams until the complete implementation of solutions.
• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent Diploma/Master) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Over 10 years of experience in designing, developing, troubleshooting, and architecting complex enterprise applications.
• Demonstrated experience in a senior architect, principal engineer, or technical lead position.
• Practical expertise in Java and JVM performance optimization, including memory management, garbage collection, threading, concurrency, heap/thread dumps, JVM tuning, profiling, latency, and throughput.
• Proficiency with enterprise Java frameworks and application servers such as Spring/Spring Boot, WebSphere, WebLogic, JBoss/WildFly, Tomcat, or Open Liberty.
• Extensive experience diagnosing performance incidents in production across application code, the JVM, middleware, databases, operating systems, infrastructure, and networks.
• Familiarity with APM, observability, and diagnostic tools such as Dynatrace, AppDynamics, New Relic, Datadog, Splunk, Java Flight Recorder, Java Mission Control, or VisualVM.
• Understanding of database performance, scaling, capacity planning, resource utilization, and application/DBMS interactions.
• Exceptional client communication, technical documentation, briefing, problem-solving, and stakeholder-management skills.
• Experience with high-volume transactional or ultra-low-latency Java applications is preferred.
• Experience with distributed systems, microservices, APIs, cloud platforms, Docker, Kubernetes, or hybrid cloud architectures is preferred.
• Familiarity with load and performance testing tools such as JMeter, Gatling, or LoadRunner is preferred.
• Experience with enterprise RDBMS such as DB2, Oracle, PostgreSQL, or SQL Server is preferred.
• Background in application modernization, platform transformation, DevOps, SRE, or production support is preferred.
• Consulting, professional services, or client-facing delivery experience is preferred.
