Java Backend Developer – Spring Boot, Camunda

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Collaborate on client projects for major companies and public sector entities, becoming an integral part of their teams.

• Design, develop, and test microservices based on Java.

• Create synchronous and asynchronous REST and SOAP APIs utilizing OpenAPI 3.

• Automate workflows using Camunda BPM.

• Implement automated testing with JUnit 5 and Cucumber.

• Manage your own services, including deployment, monitoring, and troubleshooting tasks.

• Contribute to the development of software architectures.

• Generate, review, and refactor code utilizing tools like Claude Code, Copilot, or Cursor.

• Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders across different teams.

• Engage in scheduled on-call rotations for the services you develop.

• Attend occasional on-site client meetings every few weeks.

⛳️ Requirements

• Senior-level expertise; capable of working independently and delivering results from day one.

• Proficient in Java and Spring Boot, including Spring Data and Hibernate/JPA.

• Experience in the design, development, and testing of microservices.

• Familiarity with REST and SOAP web services (JSON/XML over HTTP) using OpenAPI 3.

• Knowledge of PostgreSQL and Oracle databases.

• Experience with JUnit 5 and Cucumber for testing.

• Proficient in Docker and Kubernetes.

• Experience with CI/CD processes using GitLab Pipelines and Maven for builds.

• Familiarity with Git, Jira, Confluence, and agile methodologies.

• Hands-on experience with Camunda BPM from real-world projects.

• Knowledge of OAuth 2.0 and Keycloak for authentication and authorization.

• Proficient in German at a native level or C1/C2 proficiency.

• Fluent in English.

• Productive use of Claude Code, Copilot, or Cursor (familiarity with AI tools is essential).

• Willingness to participate in scheduled on-call rotations.

• Preferred but not mandatory: Experience with Apache Kafka and asynchronous communication; knowledge of XML, XSD, XSLT; experience in complex projects involving multiple teams; familiarity with legacy J2EE systems and migration to Spring Boot.
