Japanese Translation Editor – Part-time, Contract

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Evaluate AI-generated translations from Japanese to English against the original source material.

• Rectify mistakes, omissions, awkward phrasing, and inconsistencies in terminology.

• Revise sentences and paragraphs for improved clarity and appropriateness for Japanese learners.

• Maintain the technical meaning, learning objectives, assignment specifications, quiz interpretations, answer choices, and feedback.

• Edit and verify lessons and assessments directly within Codio while keeping the formatting and structure intact.

• Implement and revise Japanese style guides and glossaries in collaboration with the team.

• Identify unclear or ambiguous English source material and engage with subject matter experts regarding technical meanings and terminology.

• Offer succinct feedback on recurring translation challenges.

• Independently manage assigned tasks, communicate progress and inquiries, and adhere to established deadlines.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in English-to-Japanese translation and significant Japanese editing, including rewriting for clarity, flow, and audience requirements.

• Exceptional written Japanese skills and a strong understanding of English reading comprehension.

• Capability to discern differences between English and Japanese writing conventions.

• Ability to articulate editorial choices and maintain the original meaning while adjusting structure and phrasing.

• Experience with style guides and glossaries, researching terminology, and pinpointing issues that need clarification.

• Proficient in critically assessing AI-generated translations and taking ownership of the quality of final Japanese content.

• Must be able to learn Codio and navigate an online content platform effectively.

• Capacity to work remotely and independently for about 10–15 hours weekly, with dependable written communication.

• Submission of a resume and examples of English-to-Japanese editorial adaptations is necessary for application.

• English source and Japanese before-and-after versions should be included when possible, ensuring that confidential information is either removed or permission to share is confirmed.
