Japanese Transcription, Pitch Annotation Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Japan, +5 more countries.

📋 Description

• Assess Japanese audio recordings to ensure the accuracy of transcripts.

• Amend errors related to omissions, additions, repetitions, and pronunciation discrepancies in transcriptions.

• Review transcriptions featuring mixed Kanji/Kana for precision, punctuation, pauses, and bunsetsu boundaries.

• Verify Katakana pronunciation lines by comparing them to the spoken audio.

• Implement project-specific pronunciation guidelines for particles, extended vowels, double consonants, syllabic nasals, and contracted sounds.

• Assign high/low pitch values to each mora in alignment with the pronunciation line.

• Indicate audible vowel elongation with additional mora and corresponding pitch values.

• Highlight unclear audio segments for further review rather than making unfounded assumptions.

• Ensure consistent quality in annotations and adhere to calibration feedback.

• Evaluate pre-existing audio recordings instead of engaging in one-time recording tasks.

⛳️ Requirements

• Native or highly proficient knowledge of the Japanese language.

• Solid understanding of transcription techniques and accuracy.

• Capability to transcribe spoken Japanese using Kanji/Kana.

• Proficiency in preparing or validating Katakana phonetic transcriptions.

• Strong grasp of mora structure and pitch perception.

• Ability to recognize pauses, sentence endings, emotional speech, vowel lengthening, and pronunciation variations.

• Meticulous attention to detail and consistent judgment in annotation.

• Experience in Japanese speech transcription or quality assurance, audio or linguistic annotation projects, ASR transcription or speech data QA, Japanese linguistics/phonetics/phonology/prosody, speech technology, or voice data projects, as well as Japanese language instruction or voice acting/narration with excellent pitch perception.

• Successful completion of a qualification assessment encompassing Japanese transcription, Katakana pronunciation validation, mora identification and pronunciation rules, high/low pitch perception, and mora-to-pitch alignment.

• Strong performance on a practical audio assessment prior to production work.

• All project hours and tasks must receive prior approval.
