IT Systems, Database Administrator

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Philippines.

📋 Description

• Set up, configure, rebuild, maintain, and troubleshoot both Windows and Linux servers along with their associated infrastructure.

• Monitor system performance, capacity, availability, and overall health.

• Implement operating system patches, security updates, firmware upgrades, and other maintenance tasks.

• Configure and sustain server roles, services, permissions, scheduled tasks, and related infrastructure.

• Engage in maintenance, upgrades, migrations, and infrastructure projects.

• Review system and application logs, monitoring alerts, and security scan outcomes.

• Administer and maintain Microsoft SQL Server environments across both corporate and client-hosted infrastructures.

• Troubleshoot database errors and performance challenges.

• Execute SQL scripts and carry out data maintenance or data-scrubbing practices.

• Support database migrations, upgrades, replication, and environment refreshes.

• Analyze queries, indexing, and database characteristics, offering recommendations for performance enhancements.

• Ensure database integrity, availability, security, and access controls.

• Collaborate with the Release Team on client master database schemas.

• Assist in database capacity planning and infrastructure sizing.

• Configure, manage, and troubleshoot firewall policies and rules.

• Review firewall logs and network traffic for troubleshooting and security investigations.

• Implement firewall and network changes in accordance with change-management and security protocols.

• Assist with routing, DNS, DHCP, VPN connectivity, and related network configurations.

• Troubleshoot connectivity issues between corporate, cloud, data center, and client-hosted environments.

• Provide daily technical support to employees based in Australia.

• Address workstation, application, network, access, and connectivity issues.

• Respond to helpdesk and support inquiries.

• Manage user accounts, permissions, security groups, and access requests.

• Coordinate with the Toronto-based Systems Engineering team on escalated matters.

• Communicate technical issues, planned maintenance, and service disruptions.

• Conduct user access reviews, system security assessments, vulnerability remediation, and security hardening.

• Support security and compliance audits and prepare necessary technical documentation.

• Operate within live client environments while adhering to operational discipline and change-management practices.

• Maintain precise infrastructure, database, firewall, and configuration documentation.

• Execute and validate database and infrastructure backup, recovery, and disaster procedures.

• Serve as a technical resource on infrastructure and database projects.

• Collaborate with members of the Release Team, Software Architects, Business Analysts, and stakeholders.

• Participate in implementations, migrations, upgrades, and client deployments.

• Coordinate with vendors and business partners.

• Create automation to minimize manual effort and enhance recurring infrastructure and database tasks.

• Perform additional duties as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 3 years of experience in systems administration, infrastructure administration, database administration, or a related technical role.

• Hands-on experience administering Microsoft SQL Server, including database backup and restore, SQL scripting, database troubleshooting, performance monitoring and tuning, database maintenance, as well as database migrations and upgrades.

• Extensive experience managing Windows Server environments.

• Practical experience in administering and troubleshooting firewall policies and rules.

• Solid understanding of TCP/IP networking and common network services such as DNS, DHCP, VPN, routing, and associated technologies.

• Proficiency with Active Directory, user accounts, security groups, permissions, and Group Policy.

• Experience in virtualization and/or cloud infrastructure environments is a plus.

• Strong troubleshooting and analytical capabilities across multiple layers of technology stacks.

• Comprehensive understanding of IT security principles, system hardening, access control, and vulnerability remediation.

• Familiarity with backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes.

• Excellent communication and documentation skills.

• Ability to independently manage multiple priorities within a distributed technical team.
