This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Collaborate with Suspense Specialists and Investors to address defects and ensure loans are purchased promptly.
• Manage a portfolio of escalated problem loans and perform independent research to challenge Investor decisions.
• Assess suspense trends and provide recommendations for enhancing manufacturing quality.
• Work alongside a large team and assist in training suspense specialists on loan guidelines and manufacturing processes.
• Examine and evaluate loan documents for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company, federal, agency, state, and local standards.
• Evaluate loan-to-value ratios, debt-to-income ratios, credit reports, applications, income and assets, down-payment funds, and supporting documentation to detect potential fraud or misrepresentation.
• Review appraisals to confirm that loans satisfy secondary-market, investor, and company standards.
• Collaborate with Loan Processors and Loan Officers to gather necessary information and documentation to complete incomplete loan packages.
• Stay informed about regulations and industry trends that impact compliance and decision-making.
• Address questions and resolve escalated issues from junior-level team members.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
• Bachelor's Degree related to the position or an equivalent qualification is preferred.
• A minimum of five years' experience in underwriting conventional, FHA, VA, or Bond Program loans, and/or experience in underwriting jumbo or permanent/one-time close loans.
• Advanced knowledge of comprehensive mortgage lending processes, encompassing underwriting, funding, and loan processing.
• In-depth understanding of valid documentation necessary for processing consumer mortgage applications, including tax returns, financial statements, records, and verification of income and deposits.
• Extensive knowledge of underwriting and regulatory requirements.
• Thorough understanding of federal, state, and regulatory guidelines related to consumer mortgage lending, along with internal processes and controls.
• Capability to think critically and assess facts and data to draw conclusions and identify downstream impacts and associated risks.
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
• Intermediate mathematical skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
• Excellent attention to detail and highly organized.
• Ability to thrive in a dynamic, metrics-driven setting.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Wiki, collaborative cloud-based tools, and third-party software applications is required.
• Capacity to adhere to process protocols and apply established guidelines promptly.
