Internship Specialist – HBCU and TCU Internship Program

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Assist with the planning, coordination, and daily execution of a federal internship program.

• Support the entire participant lifecycle, from outreach and application through selection, placement, onboarding, internship assistance, completion, and program evaluation.

• Provide continuous support throughout the internship cycle, which includes outreach and recruitment, application assessment and selection, housing and stipend processing, coordination, communication during the internship, and post-internship closeout communications.

• Create outreach materials and engage in outreach activities via flyers, social media postings, website announcements, and email communications.

• Aid in managing internship applications and the assessment process for applications.

• Draft letters for internship selection determinations.

• Oversee communications related to selection, housing, stipends, and preparation for internship experiences.

• Identify and maintain regular communication with potential mentors.

• Foster relationships and collaborate with institutions of higher education.

• Communicate effectively with students, faculty, mentors, administrators, and external stakeholders.

• Collect, validate, organize, analyze, and convey quantitative and qualitative program data.

• Create recruitment, outreach, and communication protocols and templates that reflect equitable and inclusive practices.

• Report directly to the Program Manager and Program Director.


⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree is required.

• A minimum of four years of relevant professional experience in supporting student programs, higher-education partnerships, outreach and recruitment, workforce development, program coordination, or a related field.

• Preferred experience working with tribal communities, Tribal Colleges and Universities, tribal education departments, Native-serving organizations, or with American Indian and Alaska Native students.

• Knowledge of tribal sovereignty, government-to-government contexts, culturally responsive engagement, and community-specific protocols pertaining to education and workforce outreach.

• Established relationships or outreach experience with HBCUs, Minority Institutions, Tribal Colleges and Universities, STEM departments, research programs, or career-services networks.

• Experience supporting STEM education, research, workforce development, or federal internship programs.

• Familiarity with student application portals, applicant-tracking systems, Salesforce or another CRM, SharePoint, Smartsheet or similar project-management tools, survey platforms, and virtual-event technology.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of preparing professional correspondence, guidance, reports, presentations, and materials for students.

• Experience in creating accessible electronic materials and knowledge of Section 508 accessibility practices.

• Experience supporting participants located at multiple geographic locations or host sites.

• Proficiency in Microsoft 365, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint.

• Ability to learn applicant-tracking, customer-relationship-management, survey, and project-management platforms.

• Capacity to foster a positive and proactive culture while working in a collaborative, fast-paced, and high-tempo team environment.

• Must be able to pass background investigations as required for access to federal facilities and systems.

• This position necessitates Public Trust clearance.


🏝️ Benefits

• Full-time non-exempt position.

• Typical working hours are Monday to Friday, totaling 40-60 hours per week.

• Overtime may be required during peak periods.

• Local and regional travel of up to 20% may be necessary, including overnight stays.

• A remote/virtual work setting may be available, depending on contract requirements.
