This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +1 more country.
• Oversee backend functionalities and enhancements from initial problem identification to deployment and production oversight.
• Collaborate with Product Management, Frontend, Infrastructure, and Security teams within a specific product domain.
• Design, develop, test, and deploy backend features utilizing Ruby/Rails, Go, or other contemporary programming languages.
• Produce maintainable, secure, observable, and high-performance production code.
• Design and manage APIs, background jobs, integrations, and service functionalities within defined boundaries.
• Work with data models, migrations, indexes, and query performance.
• Enhance and expand automated unit, integration, contract, and end-to-end testing coverage.
• Evaluate code for accuracy, maintainability, security, performance, and operational risks.
• Troubleshoot build, test, deployment, and runtime issues as they arise.
• Recognize technical debt and suggest actionable improvements.
• Engage in on-call or operational support as mandated by the team’s ownership structure.
• Utilize AI tools effectively within daily engineering tasks and assess their outputs.
• Proven experience in developing and deploying production backend applications.
• Strong foundation in programming, API development, database management, testing, debugging, and performance optimization.
• Familiarity with Ruby/Rails, Go, or another modern backend programming language.
• Capability to independently carry a feature from initial clarification to delivery and follow-up.
• Sound decision-making regarding security, reliability, performance, maintainability, and operational risks.
• Knowledge of modular backend boundaries and the implications of coupling.
• Excellent written communication skills and effective collaboration within a remote, asynchronous work environment.
• Hands-on experience with AI coding tools, including the ability to review and correct generated code.
• Relevant experience with production Go services, APIs, concurrency, profiling, or gRPC.
• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, CI/CD, or cloud deployment practices.
• Additional experience with Rust is a plus.
• Experience with PostgreSQL, schema evolution, caching, queues, messaging, or event-driven architectures is beneficial.
• Familiarity with observability practices using metrics, logs, traces, dashboards, and alerts is advantageous.
• Experience contributing to a modular monolith, bounded context, shared component, or independently operated service is helpful.
