This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Costa Rica, +5 more countries.
• Oversee, mentor, and cultivate the skills of two Team Leads and four Analysts.
• Take ownership and prioritize product roadmaps driven by user requirements, business value, feasibility, data readiness, operational risk, and available capacity.
• Manage the product portfolio and resource planning; recruit, evaluate performance, develop Team Leads, and ensure succession coverage.
• Maintain active involvement in priority delivery initiatives.
• Supervise product discovery, prototyping, acceptance, deployment into business operations, monitoring, enhancement, and retirement.
• Ensure seamless integration of products into business processes, facilitate human oversight and user adoption, and achieve measurable outcomes.
• Manage product acceptance against established criteria and coordinate user enablement with Business Applications.
• Create product business cases and guide the process from discovery to adoption.
• Utilize evidence of value, feasibility, and risk to make recommendations on which products to fund, scale, enhance, or retire.
• Set up controls for evaluation, documentation, explainability, privacy, security, change management, monitoring, and responsible utilization.
• Coordinate necessary independent validation and business approvals separate from development and product acceptance.
• Oversee product performance monitoring, exception triage, escalation, and follow-up on corrective actions.
• Direct model-related issues to Data Science, data issues to Data Engineering, and software defects to Software Engineering.
• Manage communication with users in collaboration with Business Applications.
• Analyze product outcomes with senior business leaders, question inadequate performance evidence, and adjust priorities and controls as necessary.
• Relevant education or professional training in computer science, engineering, data science, mathematics, product management, or a related technical field is preferred; a degree is not essential.
• A minimum of twelve years of progressive experience in applied AI/ML, data science, software, analytics, decision systems, or technical product development.
• At least five years of experience in people leadership, with significant involvement in leading Team Leads, managers, or senior technical/product personnel.
• Proven track record of delivering AI-enabled or model-driven capabilities into actual production environments.
• Demonstrated success in building, scaling, or significantly enhancing an applied intelligence, AI product, decision-product, or technical product capability.
• Proficient in coaching Team Leads, nurturing technical/product talent, managing and prioritizing a portfolio, drafting clear product requirements and acceptance criteria, and delivering functional production products with cross-functional teams.
• Experience in making funding, sequencing, and trade-off decisions in collaboration with senior business leaders.
• Recent hands-on experience in product and technical delivery; this role is not limited to management responsibilities.
• Experience in guiding AI-enabled or analytical products from vague business problems through discovery, business case development, prototyping, requirements gathering, acceptance criteria definition, production launch, user adoption, monitoring, and iterative improvement.
• Familiarity with modern AI product development and evaluation, including model selection, API-based AI services, structured evaluation, retrieval/grounding, LLM workflow design, human-in-the-loop controls, and production observability.
• Significant applied AI experience beyond generative AI.
• Experience in developing decision-support or decision-making products that integrate data, calculations, rules, models, external data sources, and software.
• Extensive applied AI experience encompassing predictive machine learning, rules and decision engines, optimization, document understanding/extraction, NLP, generative AI/LLMs, retrieval, agent or tool-using workflows, and hybrid human-in-the-loop systems.
• Demonstrated integration into production, monitoring, user adoption, and achieving measurable business outcomes for AI-enabled or model-driven products.
• Understanding of product and model risk, evaluation design, explainability, privacy, security, data quality, access controls, monitoring, drift or degradation, exception handling, human oversight, and responsible use.
• Capability to communicate technical choices and risks clearly to senior business leaders and to translate business requirements into precise directives for data science and engineering teams.
• Ability to differentiate product ownership from data science and software engineering responsibilities.
• Skill in leading product discovery, developing prototypes, evaluating applied AI approaches, defining product behavior and acceptance criteria, questioning model evidence, and investigating performance issues.
• Capacity to build a resilient organization through hiring, coaching, delegation, roadmap discipline, standards, performance management, and Team Lead development.
• Previous experience in lending or financial services, business-user support, and data reconciliation is preferred.
