Insurance Counsel – Forms Drafting

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +38 more states.

📋 Description

• Conduct research on state laws and regulations, translating them into clear and compliant policy language.

• Prepare responses to objections raised by the Department of Insurance regarding forms.

• Represent Kin’s stance on form language with regulators, including during audits related to forms and market conduct examinations.

• Provide guidance to Claims, Product, Customer Experience, and other internal stakeholders on coverage interpretation and form language.

• Create comprehensive form packages for new states and products, incorporating base policies, endorsements, state-specific amendments, and necessary notices, ready for submission.

• Perform initial legal reviews of drafts produced by the Forms team and escalate unique state-law inquiries to the Senior Insurance Counsel.

• Develop and maintain a nationwide repository of base forms and reusable state kits for the designated line of business.

• Set drafting standards and establish reusable language.

• Create and conduct internal training sessions on policy forms, coverage interpretation, and state regulatory requirements.

• Act as a backup drafter for other lines of business.

• Identify legal risks associated with proposed product designs or modifications to coverage.

• Review AI-assisted drafts and conduct research to ensure legal accuracy and regulatory compliance.

• Establish guidelines for the utilization of AI tools.

• Update and maintain forms packages in response to changes in statutes, regulations, DOI bulletins, product improvements, and modifications to coverage.

• Produce multiple complete state and product forms packages for submission.

• Serve as a subject matter expert on Kin’s policy forms.

• Offer guidance on coverage interpretation to internal partners.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Juris Doctor (JD) degree.

• Over 5 years of experience in policy form drafting, or a mix of policy form drafting and coverage interpretation, including claims litigation or coverage counsel experience.

• Proficiency in drafting personal lines policy forms for various states.

• Experience interpreting state insurance statutes and regulations directly and translating requirements into policy language.

• Proven experience in drafting responses to regulatory objections concerning form filings.

• Capability to advise business stakeholders on coverage interpretation and policy language.

• Demonstrated ability to independently draft complete forms packages, from initial research to filing readiness.

• Must be able to live and work full-time in one of the eligible U.S. states.

• Candidates for remote technical positions in Canada should reside in Ontario (this is not applicable unless the role is classified as technical).
