This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colorado.
• Identify funding opportunities that align with WLA's priorities, established program methods, and the interests of funders.
• Leverage knowledge of WLA's strategies, programs, partnerships, and funding requirements to guide institutional giving efforts.
• Proactively oversee proposals, reporting deadlines, and deliverable schedules.
• Develop and execute an organizational grant strategy that addresses critical needs, future growth, and expansion.
• Manage relationships with funders through meetings, correspondence, site visits, and regular check-ins.
• Lead the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts for institutional funders.
• Write grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and reports targeted at foundation, corporate, and government funders.
• Prepare donor profiles and briefing materials for funders.
• Collect input and supporting materials from program staff and stakeholders/partners.
• Collaborate with program and finance teams to create grant project budgets.
• Develop implementation plans to ensure timely spending and execution of grant deliverables.
• Advise program staff on permissible uses of grant funds, budget adjustments, matching requirements, extension requests, program modifications, and contract compliance.
• Maintain records of visits, conversations, donor profiles, moves management, and acknowledgments in the development database.
• Provide grant-related data and narratives for e-newsletters, social media, annual reports, and other communications.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
• A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or equivalent work experience is required.
• At least five years of experience in grant writing and management.
• Experience working with public and private institutional funders.
• Background in a government entity or nonprofit focused on environmental conservation is preferred.
• Proven track record of renewing and increasing support from government and private funders.
• Familiarity with federal uniform guidance, particularly in relation to budgets and matching fund tracking.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Experience with CRM databases is required.
• Ability to excel in a fast-paced and rapidly evolving environment.
• A creative and positive approach to communication and problem-solving.
• Strong technological literacy and adaptability, including the capability to learn and effectively utilize new software, digital tools, and collaborative platforms.
• Residency in the American West is required.
• Skills to facilitate meetings and engage professionally with the public.
• Capacity to travel long distances by vehicle or plane, navigate uneven terrain, work outdoors in varying weather conditions, and handle agency materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
