This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
• Examine medical records from the emergency department.
• Accurately assign ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes, as well as CPT/HCPCS procedure codes and relevant modifiers.
• Determine facility Evaluation and Management (E/M) levels based on client-specific guidelines and facility charging methodologies.
• Assess documentation from nursing, physicians, ancillary departments, and diagnostic services to ensure complete code assignment and effective charge capture.
• Review accounts related to procedural services, injections, and infusions.
• Identify any documentation deficiencies and communicate needs for coding clarification.
• Engage in coding quality reviews, audits, educational initiatives, and activities aimed at process improvement.
• Keep up-to-date with coding updates, changes in reimbursement, and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with coding leadership, auditors, and client representatives to address coding-related concerns.
• Intermediate level of experience is required.
• Ability to accurately assign ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes, CPT/HCPCS procedure codes, and applicable modifiers.
• Understanding of facility Evaluation and Management (E/M) levels and client-specific emergency department leveling guidelines.
• Familiarity with the ACEP tool.
• Apply official coding guidelines, CMS regulations, National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) edits, and payer-specific requirements.
• Ensure compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, commercial payer, and organizational coding policies.
• Must achieve a quality standard of 96% or higher.
• Process 100 charts daily in an outpatient clinic environment.
• Availability for shifts from 6 AM to 6 PM, Monday through Friday.
