Inpatient Hospital Coder

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Implement required coding and classification systems along with official resources to choose the correct diagnosis, procedural (PCS), and other healthcare service codes.

• Choose and arrange codes to ensure legally compliant optimal reimbursement.

• Utilize computerized encoding systems to guarantee precise coding.

• Organize diagnoses and procedures according to ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, UHDDS, Medicare, Medicaid, and fiscal intermediary standards.

• Facilitate complete and accurate healthcare data reporting for reimbursement, value-based purchasing, population health, quality, patient safety, and research initiatives.

• Consult with physicians or qualified healthcare practitioners for clarification or additional documentation when records are inconsistent, incomplete, or unclear.

• Keep coding knowledge current through ongoing education and fulfill continuing education requirements.

• Implement official coding rules, guidelines, and internal policies to accurately represent patient services on hospital claims.

• Participate in coding meetings and roundtable discussions.

• Engage in daily huddles and LEAN problem-solving activities.

• Maintain focus during work and meetings, including keeping the camera on during Teams calls.

• Assist in organizing the medical coding department’s shared drive.

• Carry out other tasks as assigned by the manager.

⛳️ Requirements

• High School Diploma/G.E.D. is mandatory.

• Coding certification/credential through AHIMA or AAPC in good standing is required.

• Previous experience in hospital medical coding is preferred.

• Familiarity with 3M 360 and EPIC systems is preferred.

• An assessment score of 80% or higher is required; new coders may be considered with a higher assessment score.

• High proficiency in computer usage, navigating multiple systems, and troubleshooting is needed.

• Capability to work independently in a fully remote environment is essential.

• Ability to maintain a remote coding workspace that safeguards confidential health information.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary.

• Knowledge of ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding classification systems is required.

• Must be detail-oriented and efficient while ensuring productivity.
