Inpatient Hospital Coder

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Utilize inpatient coding and classification systems along with official resources to identify diagnostic, procedural (PCS), and other healthcare service codes.

• Accurately select and arrange codes to secure legally entitled reimbursement.

• Employ a computerized encoding system effectively.

• Organize diagnoses and procedures in accordance with ICD-10-CM/PCS, UHDDS, Medicare, Medicaid, and fiscal intermediary guidelines.

• Aid in the thorough and precise reporting of healthcare data elements for reimbursement, value-based purchasing, population health, quality, patient safety, research, and other administrative purposes.

• Request clarification or additional documentation from physicians or qualified healthcare practitioners.

• Engage in ongoing education and enhance coding knowledge.

• Implement official coding rules and guidelines for hospital claims.

• Adhere to internal coding policies and procedures.

• Participate in coding meetings and roundtable discussions.

• Join daily huddles and LEAN problem-solving sessions.

• Maintain focus during work and meetings, keeping the camera on during Teams calls.

• Organize the shared drive for the medical coding department.

• Execute other responsibilities assigned by the manager.

⛳️ Requirements

• High School Diploma/G.E.D. - mandatory.

• Coding certification/credential from AHIMA or AAPC in good standing - mandatory.

• Previous experience in hospital medical coding - preferred.

• Familiarity with 3M 360 and EPIC systems - preferred.

• Applicants are required to achieve a score of 80% or higher on the assessment; new coders may be considered with a higher assessment score.

• Strong computer skills, adept at navigating multiple systems simultaneously and troubleshooting issues.

• Ability to work independently, as this position is fully remote.

• Maintain a secure remote coding workspace that safeguards confidential health information.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Proficient in ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS or CPT-4 coding classification systems.

• Detail-oriented and efficient while ensuring productivity.

• An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be accepted as appropriate.
