Inpatient Hospital Coder

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Utilize inpatient coding and classification systems along with official resources to identify the correct diagnosis, procedural (PCS), and other healthcare service codes.

• Arrange diagnoses and procedures in accordance with ICD-10-CM/PCS, UHDDS, Medicare, Medicaid, and fiscal intermediary guidelines.

• Facilitate precise reporting of healthcare data elements for reimbursement, value-based purchasing, population health, quality, patient safety, research, and various administrative needs.

• Consult with physicians or qualified healthcare practitioners for clarification or additional documentation concerning conflicting, incomplete, or unclear health record information.

• Uphold ethical and legal coding standards while adhering to internal coding policies and procedures.

• Enhance coding expertise through ongoing education and fulfill continuing education obligations.

• Apply official coding rules and guidelines to accurately reflect patient services on hospital claims.

• Attend coding meetings and roundtable discussions.

• Engage in daily huddles and LEAN problem-solving initiatives.

• Maintain concentration during work and meetings and keep the camera on during Teams calls.

• Assist in organizing the shared drive for the medical coding department.

• Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the manager.

⛳️ Requirements

• High School Diploma/G.E.D. - mandatory.

• Coding certification/credential from AHIMA or AAPC in good standing - mandatory.

• Previous experience in hospital medical coding - preferred.

• Familiarity with 3M 360 and EPIC system - preferred.

• Candidates must achieve a score of 80% or higher on the assessment; new coders may be considered with a higher assessment score.

• Proficient computer skills, capable of navigating multiple systems simultaneously and troubleshooting effectively.

• Ability to work independently in a fully remote setting.

• Ensure a remote coding workspace that safeguards confidential health information.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.

• Knowledge of ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS or CPT-4 coding classification systems.

• Detail-oriented and efficient while maintaining productivity levels.

• A relevant combination of education and experience may be accepted as a substitute.
