Accredited Clinical Coder

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Analyze and abstract intricate clinical information from patient case notes and various sources.

• Identify primary diagnoses, comorbidities, procedures, investigations, and treatments for each care period.

• Convert clinical information into ICD-10 and OPCS-4 coding.

• Process coded data to establish Healthcare Resource Groups that determine funding based on payment by results.

• Apply the conventions and rules of ICD-10 and OPCS-4.

• Revise training manuals and publications when updates or clarifications in coding are issued.

• Notify coding team leaders about updates in national and local coding practices.

• Ensure that coded data is precise and accurately represents all diagnoses and procedures for each patient encounter.

• Research and compile information to aid in code assignment decisions.

• Share findings during scheduled office meetings.

• Participate in both internal and external training sessions.

• Engage in regular coding audits and clinical coding validation processes.

• Guide, mentor, and support less experienced coders and trainees.

• Provide structured feedback to individuals and management.

• Assist other coders and staff involved in the coding process.

• Stay current with developments in clinical coding.

⛳️ Requirements

• ACC National qualification.

• Proven knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy.

• Familiarity with patient information systems.

• Extensive clinical coding experience within an acute Trust across all specialties, including at least one year post-examination.

• Comprehensive understanding of ICD-10 and OPCS-4.

• Capability to resolve complex coding queries and implement agreed-upon decisions.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to meet deadlines in a high-pressure environment.

• Proficiency in coding all specialties with 90%+ accuracy.

• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in work.

• Capacity to perform under pressure and as a team member.

• Proficient IT skills.

• Understanding of anatomy and physiology, medical procedures, diagnoses, and terminology.
