Inpatient Coding Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Assign diagnosis and procedure codes for inpatient care episodes in accordance with coding conventions, guidelines, and hospital policies.

• Analyze ambiguous documentation and resolve any identified issues.

• Select the principal diagnosis, principal procedure, and all relevant diagnoses and procedures.

• Ensure adherence to ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, AHA Coding Clinic, AHIMA ethical standards, and HSC policies.

• Follow established coding workflows and participate in compliance reviews.

• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, medical staff, and other hospital personnel.

• Assist in training and reviewing the work of fellow coders.

• Provide recommendations to the supervisor and implement and monitor outcomes.

• Support team members and adjust work schedules to accommodate departmental needs.

• Participate in educational webinars, conference calls, coding seminars, and discussions.

• Adhere to AHIMA's Code of Ethics and uphold confidentiality.

• Carry out other related duties as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• An associate degree in a health-related field is preferred.

• A minimum of one year of inpatient coding experience in an acute care hospital is preferred.

• Certification as a Coding Specialist (CCS) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) is preferred.

• Assign diagnosis and procedure codes using ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS in accordance with CMS requirements.

• Achieve and maintain a 95% accuracy rate on quality reviews and meet assigned productivity standards.

• Keep updated on relevant coding rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines.

• Submit physician queries when clarification of documentation is necessary.

• Maintain coding education hours and renew annual coding credentials as required.

• Complete assigned compliance courses within specified timeframes.

• Effectively and independently work remotely.

• Ensure confidentiality of patient and employee information.

• Must be authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.
