This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
• Evaluate medical records from the emergency department and assign ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes, CPT/HCPCS procedure codes, and relevant modifiers.
• Determine facility Evaluation and Management (E/M) levels by utilizing client-specific guidelines, facility charging methodologies, and the ACEP E/M tool.
• Review documentation from physicians, nursing staff, ancillary departments, and diagnostic services to ensure accurate code assignment and charge capture.
• Implement official coding guidelines, CMS regulations, NCCI edits, and requirements specific to payers.
• Examine procedural services, injections, and infusions for correct coding and billing practices.
• Identify gaps in documentation and communicate the need for coding clarifications through established processes.
• Ensure compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, commercial payer, and organizational policies.
• Engage in coding audits, quality assurance reviews, educational initiatives, and process enhancement activities.
• Stay updated on coding revisions, reimbursement modifications, and regulatory standards.
• Collaborate with coding leadership, auditors, and client stakeholders to address coding inquiries and guarantee accuracy.
• Proven experience in coding emergency department facility records.
• In-depth knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
• Familiarity with ACEP emergency department leveling guidelines and facility E/M coding methodologies.
• Practical understanding of CMS regulations, NCCI edits, and payer requirements.
• Proficient in using Epic or similar electronic health record systems.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication abilities.
• Capability to maintain coding accuracy, productivity, and compliance in a dynamic healthcare setting.
• Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) is preferred.
• Certified Professional Coder (CPC) is preferred.
• Certified Emergency Department Coder (CEDC) is preferred but not mandatory.
