This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona.
β’ Evaluate medical records from the emergency department and assign appropriate ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes, CPT/HCPCS procedure codes, and relevant modifiers.
β’ Determine facility Evaluation and Management (E/M) levels utilizing client-specific emergency department leveling guidelines, facility charging methodologies, and the ACEP E/M tool.
β’ Assess documentation from physicians, nursing staff, ancillary services, and diagnostics to ensure accurate code assignment and charge capture.
β’ Implement official coding guidelines, CMS regulations, NCCI edits, and specific payer requirements.
β’ Examine procedural services, injections, and infusions to ensure precise coding and billing practices.
β’ Recognize documentation discrepancies and relay needs for coding clarifications.
β’ Uphold compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, commercial payers, and internal policies.
β’ Engage in coding audits, quality assurance assessments, educational programs, and process enhancements.
β’ Keep updated on coding revisions, reimbursement modifications, and regulatory standards.
β’ Work collaboratively with coding leadership, auditors, and client stakeholders to address coding inquiries and guarantee accuracy.
β’ Proven experience in coding records from emergency department facilities.
β’ In-depth knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
β’ Acquainted with ACEP emergency department leveling guidelines and facility E/M coding practices.
β’ Familiar with CMS regulations, NCCI edits, and payer-specific requirements.
β’ Proficient in using Epic or similar electronic health record systems.
β’ Exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication abilities.
β’ Capability to maintain coding precision, productivity, and compliance within a dynamic healthcare environment.
β’ Certification as a Coding Specialist (CCS) is preferred.
β’ Certification as a Professional Coder (CPC) is preferred.
β’ Certification as an Emergency Department Coder (CEDC) is preferred but not mandatory.
