IBM i System/36 Developer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.

📋 Description

• Evaluate current System/36 applications, job streams, menus, and screen configurations.

• Transform OCL programs and procedures into IBM i Control Language (CL).

• Upgrade RPG II applications to RPG IV / ILE RPG while maintaining business functionality and application integrity.

• Assess and refine converted code to enhance maintainability, performance, and adherence to modernization standards.

• Conduct unit testing, integration testing, and assist with user acceptance testing activities.

• Research, troubleshoot, and resolve issues that arise during remediation and testing phases.

• Modernize System/36 screens and menu layouts.

• Document application functionality, conversion methodologies, remediation efforts, and testing outcomes.

• Collaborate with technical teams, business stakeholders, and quality assurance personnel.

• Engage in code reviews and contribute to the sharing of technical best practices and knowledge.

• Finalize and record OCL-to-CL and RPG II-to-RPG IV / ILE RPG conversion tasks.

• Generate technical documentation and materials for knowledge transfer.

• Play a key role in the successful achievement of modernization goals.

⛳️ Requirements

• Significant experience in IBM System/36 environments.

• Extensive background with Operational Control Language (OCL).

• Strong development and maintenance experience in RPG II.

• Practical experience in converting OCL to CL.

• Hands-on experience in transitioning RPG II applications to RPG IV / ILE RPG.

• Familiarity with IBM i application modernization projects.

• Robust understanding of batch processing, job scheduling, and legacy application infrastructures.

• Experience in conducting conversion remediation and code optimization tasks.

• Proven track record in planning and executing testing related to conversions.

• Experience in screen and menu modernization and conversion.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to comprehend and convert complex legacy business logic into modern IBM i solutions.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Strong documentation and organizational abilities.

• Capable of working independently as well as within a team-oriented project environment.

• Over 7 years of IBM midrange development experience.

• More than 5 years of development and support experience with System/36.

• Proven experience in application conversion and modernization efforts.

• A demonstrated history of successfully delivering RPG and OCL conversion projects in IBM i environments.
