HVDC & FACTS Field Service Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Oversee and implement maintenance, onsite interventions, and technical support tasks for FACTS and HVDC transmission systems.

• Manage site activity preparations and collaborate with both end customers and internal teams.

• Conduct commissioning tasks on FACTS and HVDC equipment, aiding in energisation and system handover.

• Take ownership of the technical scope within long-term service contracts.

• Lead and participate in customer meetings to identify technical solutions.

• Assist with minor renovation and upgrade projects related to FACTS installations.

• Offer technical expertise to the ITO team during tendering processes.

• Resolve technical challenges and contribute to maintaining system availability.

• Direct complex service activities and manage on-site teams for international clients.

⛳️ Requirements

• Must be willing to travel extensively to projects and various field assignments.

• Available to work on holidays, weekends, and overtime as needed for field assignments.

• Capable of spending significant time away from home for training and field tasks.

• Strong technical foundation with site experience in switching equipment, harmonic filters, instrumentation transformers, and protection relay commissioning.

• Practical knowledge of FACTS technologies (both thyristor- and IGBT-based); familiarity with rotating machines is a plus.

• Proven aptitude for troubleshooting complex systems using network recorders, analysers, and in-depth log/curve analysis.

• Strong awareness of EHS and consistent adherence to safety regulations.

• Excellent communication capabilities, including proficient report writing, planning of site activities, and interaction with customers.

• Demonstrated problem-solving skills, awareness of project management, and experience in leading on-site teams during service or commissioning operations.

• Engineering degree in power electronics or equivalent “house engineer” experience.

• Hands-on experience with drives, FACTS, or HVDC systems.
