HVDC & FACTS Field Service Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Lead and carry out maintenance, onsite interventions, and technical support tasks for FACTS and HVDC transmission systems.

• Oversee preparations for site-related activities and liaise with end customers as well as internal teams.

• Conduct commissioning tasks on FACTS and HVDC equipment, facilitating energisation and system handover.

• Take ownership of the technical scope within long-term service contracts.

• Participate in and lead customer meetings, identifying technical solutions.

• Assist with minor renovation and upgrade projects for FACTS installations.

• Offer technical expertise to the ITO (Inquiry-to-Order) team during the tendering process.

• Ensure system availability, troubleshoot technical issues, and guarantee safe and efficient service execution.

⛳️ Requirements

• Must be willing to travel frequently for projects and various field assignments.

• Available to work on holidays, weekends, and overtime as necessitated by field assignments.

• Capable of spending significant time away from home for training and field projects.

• Strong technical foundation with site experience in switching equipment, harmonic filters, instrumentation transformers, and the commissioning of protection relays.

• Practical knowledge in FACTS technologies (thyristor- and IGBT-based).

• Familiarity with rotating machines is considered a plus.

• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex systems utilizing network recorders, analyzers, and detailed log/curve analysis.

• Strong awareness of EHS and capability to enforce safety protocols stringently.

• Excellent communication abilities, report writing skills, site activity planning, and customer interaction proficiency.

• Strong problem-solving skills, project management awareness, and experience leading on-site teams during service or commissioning processes.

• Engineering degree (or equivalent “house engineer” experience) in power electronics.

• Practical experience with drives, FACTS, or HVDC systems.
