
HVAC Design – Estimating Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Philippines.
• Support design efforts for HVAC installation projects based on client and project specifications.
• Ensure that design and estimation tasks adhere to Australian standards, codes, and legislation, including NCC, AS 1668, AS 3666, and AS/NZS 3000.
• Stay updated on changes to Australian building codes and standards that impact HVAC design.
• Measure and quantify materials and labor from PDF and CAD drawings.
• Generate take-offs in linear meters, square meters, and item counts for ductwork, pipework, equipment, and accessories.
• Create Bills of Quantities based on drawings and specifications.
• Maintain and refresh Excel-based take-off templates and estimating spreadsheets.
• Assemble tender packages that include scope breakdowns, pricing schedules, and compliance documentation.
• Review tender documents and RFQs to assess scope, inclusions, exclusions, and conditions.
• Dispatch RFQs to subcontractors and suppliers.
• Follow up and integrate subcontractor pricing into estimates.
• Assist with the preparation of cover letters and tender submission documents.
• Log project variations compared to the original scope.
• Maintain variation registers and aid in variation claims.
• Monitor variation approvals and flag any outstanding items.
• Conduct commercial HVAC heat load calculations using industry-standard software.
• Prepare summaries of load calculations for individual rooms and system levels.
• Assist in selecting equipment based on calculated loads and minimum flow rates.
• Ensure that calculations comply with AS 1668 and NCC Volume 1.
• Help with data entry and job setup in SimPro.
• Organize project files and documentation in OneDrive.
• Provide support for quote follow-ups and client interactions.
• A degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, or a relevant field.
• At least 2 years of experience in HVAC design, estimating, quantity surveying, or a comparable role.
• Proficient in Bluebeam Revu, CostX, Buildsoft, or similar estimating software.
• Strong ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and project specifications.
• Experience in performing heat load calculations using HAP, Trace 700, or equivalent software.
• Solid skills in Microsoft Excel — capable of building and maintaining estimating templates.
• Familiarity with Australian construction standards and HVAC specifications is highly valued.
• Proficient in written and spoken English.
• Reliable internet connection, a suitable home office setup, and personal computer.
• Experience collaborating with Australian HVAC contractors or engineering consultancies.
• Knowledge of AS 1668, AS/NZS 3666, and NCC Volume 1 (Section J).
• Familiarity with SimPro job management software.
• Skills in AutoCAD or Revit.
• Experience in preparing O&M manuals or project handover documentation.
• Must disclose any existing ongoing roles or client work.
