
HV Electrical Engineer β Substation Design

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
β’ Implement all technical elements of AC power substation projects under the supervision of a Lead Engineer.
β’ Create high-voltage substation general arrangements, layouts, plan and elevation drawings, bills of materials, high-voltage bus layouts, cable and wiring configurations, grounding designs, and control building layouts.
β’ Conduct associated engineering calculations.
β’ Coordinate the overall design with other engineering disciplines.
β’ Provide basic single-line diagrams, schematics, relay protection, and control specifications.
β’ Draft high-voltage equipment specifications and generate material purchase request forms.
β’ Assess vendor quotations for substation equipment, including circuit breakers, switchgear, disconnects, power transformers, cables, and protection and control systems.
β’ Collaborate with engineers, designers, sourcing, and project teams to fulfill project specifications, manage costs, and adhere to schedule goals.
β’ Interact with Principal Engineers, Protection and Control Engineers, Electrical Designers, Physical Designers, Draftsmen, Project Managers, and support teams.
β’ Develop and review technical specifications for proposals.
β’ Estimate materials and assist in sourcing for vendor quotations.
β’ Guide designers and draftsmen regarding drawing requirements.
β’ Formulate clarifications, exceptions, and technical responses.
β’ Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited university or college (BSEE preferred).
β’ Minimum of 1 year of experience in Transmission & Distribution substation engineering.
β’ Willingness and ability to travel up to 20%, including international travel.
β’ Professional Engineer license, or willingness to take the necessary exams to become a licensed PE.
β’ Familiarity with IEEE and ANSI standards and codes, including the NEC and NESC.
β’ Proficient in design calculations for primary and secondary equipment, such as battery sizing, DC system component selection, power transformer and circuit breaker selection, circuit protection, cable selection and rating, bus and fittings selection, insulator and arrester selection, ground grid design, and lightning protection.
β’ Understanding of civil engineering and structural design requirements related to substations.
β’ Experience with field-testing and commissioning while adhering to safe work practices.
β’ Capable of electrical and mechanical troubleshooting.
β’ Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
β’ Strong personal computer skills, including programming and design automation.
β’ Proficient knowledge of AutoCAD, BIM, and Revit is highly desirable.
β’ Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
β’ Legally authorized to work in the United States.
