This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Democratic Republic of the Congo.
• Spearhead the execution and ongoing enhancement of HSEC policies, procedures, and management systems.
• Ensure adherence to relevant DRC HSEC legislation, permits, standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Perform routine HSEC inspections, audits, risk assessments, and compliance reviews.
• Identify potential environmental, health, and safety risks and develop plans for mitigation and corrective actions.
• Oversee environmental performance, including waste management, water management, pollution prevention, biodiversity, and rehabilitation efforts.
• Assist in investigating incidents and accidents, ensuring that corrective and preventive measures are enacted.
• Foster a robust HSEC culture through training, awareness campaigns, and stakeholder engagement.
• Maintain HSEC records, reporting systems, and performance metrics.
• Compile regular HSEC reports for management and pertinent stakeholders.
• Supervise environmental management plans and monitoring initiatives.
• Ensure that mining operations are in compliance with environmental permits and commitments.
• Monitor the environmental impacts associated with mining activities and propose mitigation strategies.
• Support environmental inspections, monitoring initiatives, and regulatory interactions.
• Participate in environmental audits, assessments, and reporting processes.
• Engage with local communities and relevant stakeholders regarding HSEC issues.
• Assist in addressing community concerns and managing environmental or social grievances.
• Collaborate with operational teams and local stakeholders to promote responsible mining practices.
• Supervise and provide technical guidance to HSEC staff and contractors.
• Enhance HSEC competencies through coaching, training, and awareness initiatives.
• Encourage accountability for HSEC performance throughout the organization.
• A Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Environmental Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related field.
• 5–10 years of relevant professional experience, ideally within the mining sector or another high-risk industrial setting.
• Proven experience in environmental management, demonstrating a strong grasp of environmental compliance and monitoring.
• Previous involvement in a HSEC management or supervisory capacity is highly desirable.
• Mining experience will be highly regarded.
• Solid understanding of HSEC management systems, risk assessment, and incident investigation.
• Acquainted with applicable DRC environmental, health, and safety regulations.
• Knowledge of international HSEC standards and best practices is advantageous.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management abilities.
• Capability to work effectively in a remote mining environment.
• Congolese nationality is required, with candidates from South Kivu particularly encouraged to apply.
• Strong environmental qualifications and professional experience.
• Previous experience in South Kivu or the broader DRC is a plus.
• Practical, field-oriented mindset with the ability to collaborate closely with operational teams.
• Strong aptitude for managing priorities and working independently in a challenging site environment.
