HIM Coordinator – Critical Access Hospitals

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Oversee and track the lifecycle of the legal health record by conducting analysis, managing the release of information, implementing optical imaging, and performing auditing tasks.

• Collect, manage, analyze, interpret, and convert health information data into precise and timely reports.

• Manage both electronic and paper protected health information (PHI).

• Deliver continuous education and communication to hospital and clinic staff concerning documentation retention practices.

• Ensure that team members receive training in the preparation, scanning, and indexing of documents.

• Execute and evaluate quality assurance audits for optical imaging personnel and staff responsible for entering information into the legal health record, whether paper or electronic.

• Act as a HIM support resource and oversee special projects within the department.

• Design and facilitate improved workflows, processes, and procedures.

• Collaborate with the Forms Committee Liaison, Local HIM Supervisor, and IT Application Systems Analyst to enhance accessibility to the legal health record.

• Coordinate the maintenance, retention, retrieval, and disposal of legal health records and other documents in accordance with legal and regulatory standards.

• Assist with initiatives related to Warehouse, MyWVUChart, Affiliate Link, and West Virginia Health Information Network when appropriate.

• Facilitate education on Media Manager front-end scanning processes.

• Provide weekly management reports on employee compliance regarding quality assurance and productivity.

• Identify, articulate, and manage the organization's information assets.

⛳️ Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent qualification.

• Two (2) years of experience in HIM Department operations or an Associate degree in Health Information Technology, Health Information Management, or a related field.

• Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in health information technology or a related discipline.

• Preferred: Credentials as a Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT) or Certified Health Data Analyst (CHDA).

• Capability to lift, push, or pull 11–20 pounds.

• Ability to sit for extended periods.

• Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

• Basic mathematical proficiency.
