Health Information Specialist I – Temporary

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Accurately and efficiently process requests for release-of-information and medical records.

• Respond to inquiries from patients, insurance providers, and attorneys regarding the status of medical records.

• Receive and manage patient health information in accordance with company and facility guidelines.

• Ensure confidentiality, security, and compliance with HIPAA and medical privacy standards.

• Maintain an up-to-date understanding of company and facility software.

• Communicate with the manager about work issues, site challenges, and varying workloads.

• Oversee patient health records and ensure the protection of these records.

• Prepare new patient charts using both paper and electronic health record formats.

• Organize medical records in the standard order while ensuring accuracy and completeness.

• Create digital copies of documents for electronic medical records storage.

• Retrieve and send patient records to both internal and external requesters.

• Handle incoming and outgoing calls.

• Assist with patient walk-ins and perform administrative tasks such as faxing, mailing, and data entry.

• Meet specific productivity expectations set by the site.

• Coordinate pickups as necessary.

• Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.


⛳️ Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED is required.

• Ability to travel between locations as needed.

• Willingness to work overtime during peak seasons if required.

• Basic proficiency in computer usage.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel.

• Familiarity with phones, fax machines, printers, and other standard office equipment.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.

• Excellent data entry abilities.

• Capable of working independently and adapting to shifting priorities.

• Skilled in organizing and managing multiple tasks simultaneously.

• Ability to efficiently respond to requests in a fast-paced setting.

• Experience in a healthcare setting is advantageous.

• Previous experience in production or metric-driven roles is a plus.

• In-person customer service experience is beneficial.
