Health Information Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Process requests for release of information and manage patient health information in accordance with company and facility guidelines.

• Ensure the protection of patient privacy, confidentiality, and medical records while adhering to HIPAA regulations.

• Handle inbound and outbound communications with patients, insurance providers, and attorneys concerning the status of medical records.

• Accurately document information across various platforms utilizing dual computer monitors.

• Maintain proficiency in company and facility software applications.

• Communicate with the manager regarding work progress, site challenges, and variations in workload.

• Oversee patient health records, ensuring their accuracy and completeness.

• Prepare new patient charts using both paper and electronic health record resources.

• Organize medical records in the required standard order.

• Generate digital copies of documents for electronic medical records.

• Retrieve and transmit patient records to both internal and external requestors appropriately.

• Assist with patient walk-ins and perform administrative tasks such as faxing, mailing, and data entry.

• Coordinate pickups as necessary.

• Achieve site-specific productivity targets.

• Execute additional tasks as assigned.

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

• Ability to travel between locations as required.

• Willingness to work overtime during peak periods when necessary.

• Basic computer skills are essential.

• Comfortable using telephones, fax machines, printers, and other standard office equipment consistently.

• Professional verbal and written communication abilities in English.

• Strong data entry capabilities.

• Capacity to work independently and respond to shifting priorities.

• Ability to organize and handle multiple tasks efficiently.

• Ability to react promptly to requests in a fast-paced setting.

• Must fulfill productivity requirements.

• This position is not eligible for employment sponsorship.

• Experience in a healthcare setting is advantageous.

• Previous experience in production or metric-based roles is a plus.

• In-person customer service experience is beneficial.
