
Health Information Access Specialist – Advance Directives

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Wisconsin.
• Evaluate advance medical directives and legal documents for compliance, making decisions to approve or reject them, while entering system FYI flags, initiating EHR banner alerts, and scanning relevant documents into the electronic health record.
• Analyze compliance of verbal and exchange-of-information authorizations, approving or rejecting as necessary, and scanning the documentation accordingly.
• Update system FYI flags to notify clinicians of patient directives related to information sharing, aiding in the prevention of information breaches.
• Provide telephone assistance to both internal and external callers, including staff members, physicians, patients, and social workers.
• No minimum educational background is required.
• A High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred.
• An Associate's Degree in Health Information Management (HIM), Health Information Technology (HIT), or a related field is preferred.
• One (1) to Three (3) years of previous experience in release of information activities, patient access, scheduling, registration, or direct patient care experience (preferably in an electronic setting).
• A Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management or a similar discipline may be substituted for the required years of experience.
• Experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR), specifically EPIC or Care Everywhere, is required.
• Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification is preferred.
• Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certification is preferred.
• Certified Associate in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CAHIMS) certification is preferred.
• Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS) certification is preferred.
• Certification in Release of Information Specialist (CRIS) is preferred.
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification is preferred.
• EPIC Certification is preferred.
• Must reside in an approved remote work state for UW Health.
