This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Spearhead the development and implementation of integrated communication strategies, messaging frameworks, and stakeholder engagement plans for the CDC and other federal health initiatives.

• Act as a primary consultant for federal clients and program leaders regarding communications strategy, digital engagement, public health messaging, and risk communication methodologies.

• Supervise the creation and management of communication products, such as websites, newsletters, social media content, executive briefing materials, presentations, reports, and multimedia assets.

• Convert complex scientific, technical, and public health information into clear, actionable communications designed for various stakeholder audiences.

• Lead and manage cross-functional teams tasked with content development, editorial review, stakeholder coordination, and digital communications efforts.

• Provide strategic oversight for communication clearance, content governance, quality assurance, and compliance processes.

• Evaluate digital performance metrics, audience insights, and communication outcomes to facilitate ongoing improvement and strategic decision-making.

• Direct website modernization efforts, content strategy initiatives, content migrations, and digital transformation projects.

• Ensure that communication products adhere to federal standards, including HHS requirements, Section 508 accessibility, health literacy principles, plain language guidelines, and agency communication policies.

• Mentor and develop junior communications staff while assisting with project delivery, business development, and organizational growth initiatives.


⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree is required.

• A minimum of SIX (6) years of professional health communications experience, including leadership of complex communication initiatives.

• Must be capable of obtaining and maintaining a Federal or DoD "PUBLIC TRUST".

• Candidates with an ACTIVE PUBLIC TRUST or SUITABILITY are preferred.

• A Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Public Health, Health Communication, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field is preferred.

• Experience in supporting CDC or other federal health agency communication programs.

• Proven track record in leading communication strategy development and execution for public health, scientific, or technical initiatives.

• Experience in managing client relationships and advising senior leaders.

• Familiarity with federal communication review, clearance, governance, and approval processes.

• Strong skills in project management, stakeholder management, presentation, facilitation, writing, and editing.

• Experience in juggling multiple priorities, leading teams, and delivering high-quality products in a client-facing consulting environment.

• Understanding of health literacy, plain language, audience-centered communication, and behavior change communication principles.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, and digital collaboration platforms.

• Experience with CDC Digital First Editor (DFE) or other federal content management systems.

• Knowledge of CDC Clear Communication Index methodologies and evidence-based public health communication practices.

• Familiarity with digital analytics, audience segmentation, SEO, user experience (UX), or content strategy methodologies.

• Experience in supporting public health emergency communications, crisis communications, or risk communication programs.

• Oversight experience in multimedia development, video production, graphic design, or digital campaign implementation.

• Experience supervising staff, mentoring team members, and contributing to proposal development, capture activities, or business development efforts.

• PMP, APR, CMP, or other relevant communications or project management certification is advantageous.
