
Health Communication Specialist – Community-based Prevention and Care

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.
• Provide strategic communications assistance across programs related to oral health, asthma, community health workers, cancer, and community-health alignment.
• Facilitate community-clinical connections to prevent and effectively manage asthma, cancer, and oral health issues.
• Engage with and enhance the community health worker workforce while fostering alignment with community health centers.
• Implement transformative practices within health systems to tackle health inequities.
• Gather and distribute surveillance data.
• Collaborate with program and evaluation staff to fulfill the communications needs of the Division.
• Develop and execute communication plans that support and promote specified topic areas.
• Identify essential messages, communication channels, and appropriate content while ensuring cultural relevance and suitable literacy levels.
• Utilize a structural analysis of systemic and historical racism and its effects on health inequities in communications plans and activities.
• Plan, create, implement, and assess communication message strategies.
• Produce printed and online publications, websites, presentations, collateral materials, and digital media content.
• Collaborate with program teams on message planning, research, development, and delivery.
• Establish and maintain relationships with partners, contractors, and stakeholders.
• Ensure uniformity across communication channels and adherence to state requirements and guidelines.
• Attend internal and external meetings as needed.
• Complete deliverables and necessary reports within specified time frames.
• Oversee project work, quality assurance, and compliance with deliverables as required.
• Master’s degree in health communications, public health, or a related field.
• 2-4 years of professional, relevant experience.
• Familiarity with behavior change messaging, marketing, and other communication principles, along with experience applying these concepts.
• General understanding and commitment to health equity, including racial equity, and addressing social determinants of health.
• Experience in developing communication materials and awareness campaigns, including formatting and creating visually appealing content.
• Ability to work independently and follow directions as part of a team.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with experience working in collaborative team settings.
• Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
