Head of Venture Creation

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Mexico.

📋 Description

• Lead and manage multidisciplinary venture pod teams throughout the Venture Development Pathway: Identify, Evaluate, Build, and Scale.

• Create venture theses addressing industry challenges and pinpoint talent and technologies for new ventures.

• Assemble deal teams, perform due diligence, and assist in investment decision-making.

• Guide venture pods through the company creation process utilizing RRVS’s DVFO methodology, Venture Architects, and Platform capabilities.

• Aid portfolio companies in obtaining customer pilots, securing corporate investment, and achieving commercial offtake.

• Set priorities and sequencing across venture pods, engaging Studio and Fund resources at each phase.

• Collaborate directly with founders, scientists, and engineers to transform breakthrough technologies into viable products and companies.

• Define strategies for product, customer, market, business model, and commercialization.

• Drive initiatives in customer discovery, product development, pilot projects, partnerships, and early commercial traction.

• Assist in building founding teams and recruiting executives and technical leaders.

• Formulate financing strategies and prepare companies to secure venture, strategic, and non-dilutive capital.

• Step into hands-on operational roles, including interim CEO duties, when necessary.

• Act as an experienced operator and thought partner for founders.

• Serve as an Operating Advisor or Board Member for portfolio companies.

• Create repeatable frameworks for establishing deep-tech companies.

• Mentor Venture Architects and members of the venture creation team.

• Assess technologies, markets, founders, and new venture opportunities.

• Elevate the operational standards across Roadrunner’s portfolio of emerging companies.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in building deep-tech companies from inception to execution.

• Successfully built and managed at least one venture-backed deep-tech company from 0 to 1, preferably multiple, in sectors such as advanced energy, materials, manufacturing, or computing.

• Held roles as a founder, CEO, or senior operating executive with direct accountability for product development, commercialization, team building, and company growth.

• Raised or significantly contributed to raising over $10M in venture capital, ideally across multiple institutional funding rounds.

• Strong aptitude for product development, converting complex scientific and technological concepts into products with tangible customer demand.

• Experience collaborating closely with scientists and engineers to commercialize technically intricate technologies.

• Familiarity with non-dilutive funding, government initiatives, or technologies derived from national laboratories, universities, or research institutions.

• Exceptional judgment, a sense of urgency, and the capacity to build and make decisions in highly uncertain environments.

• Located in—or willing to dedicate significant time to—New Mexico.
