Head of Technology Foundations

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop and implement a comprehensive multi-year technology strategy that encompasses cloud, network, data centers, and foundational services.

• Lead intricate cloud and network separations, migrations, and infrastructure buildouts.

• Provide technical guidance across cloud architecture, networking, connectivity, infrastructure platforms, and hybrid environments.

• Collaborate with senior engineering, engineering productivity, and engineering excellence leaders to assess the impact of infrastructure on developer workflows, CI/CD, build systems, and development environments.

• Promote infrastructure as code, automation, observability, self-service capabilities, and contemporary cloud-native practices.

• Take ownership of infrastructure reliability, performance, availability, capacity, and cost optimization.

• Establish an automation-first operational model for infrastructure operations, service reliability, observability, and incident management.

• Lead, mentor, and empower a skilled team of technical specialists.

• Cultivate relationships with Enterprise IT, engineering leadership, business stakeholders, Rivian, and Volkswagen Group technology counterparts.

• Convert strategic objectives into actionable roadmaps, manage budgets and strategic partnerships, and execute complex infrastructure initiatives while ensuring stable operations.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of progressive experience in infrastructure engineering, cloud platforms, networking, infrastructure architecture, or similar technical leadership roles.

• Demonstrated experience in leading complex infrastructure transformations, including cloud migrations, network modernization, infrastructure buildouts, or large-scale technology separations.

• Profound technical knowledge of cloud architecture, enterprise networking, hybrid infrastructure, connectivity, and foundational platform services.

• Capability to independently develop and implement a technology strategy, translating architectural vision into actionable roadmaps and measurable outcomes.

• Strong understanding of contemporary software engineering environments, encompassing CI/CD pipelines, developer tooling, infrastructure dependencies, and impacts on engineering productivity.

• Proven experience in building or leading high-performing technical teams.

• Hands-on experience with infrastructure automation, infrastructure as code, observability, cloud operations, and modern reliability practices.

• Strong architectural judgment, hands-on technical credibility, and practical technology trade-off skills.

• Established ability to influence senior technology stakeholders and collaborate across organizational boundaries.

• Preferred: Extensive experience with AWS and modern cloud infrastructure.

• Preferred: Experience in leading corporate technology separations, carve-outs, TSA exits, or independent cloud and network infrastructure.

• Preferred: Experience in building or modernizing enterprise networks, global connectivity, and data center infrastructure.

• Preferred: Background in high-growth technology, automotive, software engineering, or engineering-intensive environments.

• Preferred: Experience with cloud financial management, platform engineering, developer infrastructure, and AI/ML infrastructure.

• Preferred: Experience in establishing modern IT operations models.
