Head of Security

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North America.

📋 Description

• Oversee security at Helius, setting the strategic direction and managing execution across infrastructure, cloud, and production systems.

• Take full ownership of incident response processes, encompassing detection, response, runbooks, on-call readiness, and tabletop exercises.

• Develop and maintain security posture across identity and access management, secrets and key management, network segmentation, logging, monitoring, and detection.

• Evaluate and manage risks associated with third-party vendors and supply chains.

• Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate security within development and deployment processes.

• Lead the compliance strategy and address customer security evaluation requests.

• Recruit, nurture, and expand the security team.

• Develop and oversee the security strategy and roadmap.

• Maintain the threat model and risk register, prioritizing genuine risks.

• Effectively communicate risk to executives, engineers, and customers.

• Report directly to the COO and Head of Engineering.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 8 years in security, with experience in securing high-availability, internet-facing infrastructure on a large scale.

• Strong engineering capabilities; proficient in reading and writing code and analyzing systems.

• Extensive knowledge in cloud security, bare metal, and production environments.

• Practical experience in detection and response, including leadership during real security incidents.

• Proven track record in establishing a security program or significantly enhancing a security function.

• Experience in securing developer products, APIs, or platforms.

• Solid understanding of secrets and key management practices.

• Capable of working quickly, iterating, and making sound decisions in high-pressure situations.

• Pragmatic mindset with a strong sense of ownership.

• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with engineers without causing delays.

• Comfortable functioning in a fully remote, asynchronous-friendly team environment.

• Experience leading a SOC 2 or similar audit (preferred).

• Previous security leadership experience in a high-growth startup (preferred).
