Head of Global Media and Public Relations

• Spearhead and implement a comprehensive global media strategy that enhances Plan International’s visibility, credibility, and influence concerning girls’ rights and humanitarian matters.

• Discover and secure impactful media opportunities that promote organizational priorities and shape public and policy dialogues.

• Offer strategic communications leadership across advocacy, campaigns, research, partnerships, and programs to maximize external impact.

• Direct the organization’s global strategy for managing reputation risks, issues, and crisis communications in various high-risk scenarios.

• Counsel the Leadership Team on high-profile, sensitive, and intricate issues, providing clear, timely, and actionable recommendations.

• Enhance systems, protocols, and decision-making frameworks to guarantee an effective and coordinated response to reputational risks across the federation.

• Coordinate global media engagement during significant emergencies and humanitarian responses to support fundraising initiatives.

• Foster robust and aligned media engagement throughout the organization.

• Analyze and interpret global trends, media narratives, and external risks to inform organizational positioning and decision-making.

• Create and implement global standards, guidance, and best practices for media engagement, crisis communications, and reputation management.

• Lead and cultivate a high-performing global media team, promoting collaboration, accountability, and ongoing improvement.


⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience in leading global media relations and securing coverage across international and mass media outlets.

• Proven capability to design and execute integrated global communications strategies.

• Experience working in diverse and high-risk environments, especially in Asia, Africa, and Latin America.

• Strong background in crisis communications, including handling major emergencies and field deployments.

• Expertise in managing reputation risks within complex, global organizations.

• Experience advising senior leaders on high-profile, sensitive matters.

• Strong analytical and strategic thinking abilities, with a talent for shaping influence and positioning.

• Demonstrated experience in international and multicultural settings.

• Solid understanding of the international development sector, particularly regarding gender equality and human rights frameworks.

• Experience in developing global communications plans, policies, and best practices.

• Knowledge of safeguarding in humanitarian and development communications.

• Strong project management and prioritization skills in fast-paced environments.

• Proven leadership experience in team management, coaching, and capacity-building.

• Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication, and influencing capabilities.

• Strong collaboration skills within global, matrixed organizations.

• Effective negotiator and problem solver.

• Background in journalism, media, or communications, with exposure to international development being desirable.

• Fluent in English; proficiency in additional languages is a plus.
