Head of Cinematography, Layout – Ink

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Collaborate with directors and creative leadership to design, define, and implement the show's camera language and visual aesthetic.

• Direct the staging and choreography of characters and layout elements for cinematic storytelling.

• Work alongside Tech and Production teams to establish, test, and enhance traditional, GenAI, and hybrid workflows.

• Integrate 2D and 3D elements to achieve high-quality visual aesthetics and optimize pipeline efficiency.

• Anticipate pipeline requirements and address bottlenecks before they affect delivery.

• Develop and advocate for workflows, templates, and scripts; document team learnings and best practices.

• Cultivate and lead a high-performance, exploratory team culture.

• Quickly incorporate feedback to uphold creative direction, production standards, and sprint timelines.

• Offer constructive feedback to leadership to enhance scalability and creative excellence.

• Mentor and provide technical training to the layout team on traditional animation pipelines and GenAI-integrated tools.

⛳️ Requirements

• At least 7 years of experience in the film, TV, or gaming industry.

• A minimum of 4 years in a leadership or supervisory position within film, TV, or gaming.

• Portfolio samples and/or credits that showcase excellence in layout/previs.

• Solid understanding of Previs, Camera, and CG shot production and its iterative processes.

• Experience in layout and previsualization production for feature films, shorts, or series.

• Advanced proficiency with CG software tools such as Autodesk Maya, Houdini, or Nuke.

• Familiarity with Python and/or MEL scripting is a plus.

• Knowledge of GenAI native tools is an advantage.

• Proven experience in adhering to production budgets and timelines.

• Strong, demonstrated leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.

• Genuine interest in Generative AI imagery and video, with a proactive, hands-on approach to exploring new GenAI tools to enhance visual storytelling.

• Excellent organizational and time management skills, capable of delivering high-quality work on schedule in a dynamic environment.

• Ability to accept direction positively, collaborate across disciplines, and communicate effectively with creative, technical, and production partners.

• A resourceful, builder's mindset characterized by independence, innovative thinking, and initiative as production support and workflows evolve with the creative process.

• Experience in ambiguous environments where the core production pipeline is under development and rapidly evolving.

• Comfortable with big-picture strategies while being willing to create new workflows in a changing production landscape.

• Capable of providing constructive feedback to leadership for improved scalability.
