This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Mexico.
• Take charge of the accuracy, punctuality, and integrity of the group’s accounting, financial statements, and tax compliance.
• Report directly to the CFO and lead the accounting team.
• Collaborate closely with FP&A, Treasury, Legal, Compliance, Operations, and Technology departments.
• Ensure the monthly close is completed by D+10.
• Review accruals, journal entries, and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Prepare both entity and consolidated financial statements, along with reporting packages.
• Reconcile actual accounting figures with FP&A’s financial model and clarify discrepancies.
• Manage intercompany reconciliations, eliminations, foreign currency translations, and group consolidation.
• Evaluate the accounting and consolidation treatment for financing trusts and special purpose vehicles.
• Maintain documented IFRS group policies and align them with Mexican statutory and regulatory accounting requirements.
• Prepare technical memos addressing material judgments and complex transactions.
• Oversee lending accounting, which includes accrued interest, effective interest rates, fees, expected credit losses, write-offs, and recoveries.
• Reconcile loan servicing data, cash collections, and portfolio balances with the general ledger.
• Ensure accurate recognition and reconciliation of payment, interchange, subscription, and other service revenues, settlement balances, customer funds, and related costs.
• Conduct accounting analysis and prepare supporting schedules for debt, financing costs, investments, goodwill and intangible asset impairments, deferred taxes, and share-based payments.
• Review new products, partnerships, acquisitions, and funding arrangements prior to implementation.
• Manage the Mexican tax calendar, filings, payments, accounting-to-tax reconciliations, and supporting records.
• Supervise income tax, VAT, withholding taxes, and tax balances, including refunds and credits.
• Coordinate transfer pricing studies and documentation.
• Collaborate on UK and cross-border tax matters with specialist advisors.
• Oversee financial and accounting aspects of applicable CNBV and Banco de México reporting.
• Lead the group’s annual audit process in Mexico and the UK.
• Maintain audit readiness and coordinate UK statutory filings.
• Implement controls over cutoff, reconciliations, journal approvals, intercompany transactions, equity, stock options, and supporting documentation.
• Develop the accounting team and manage external accounting and tax service providers.
• Enhance ERP workflows, chart of accounts, and system integrations.
• Automate repeatable reconciliations and reporting while ensuring data lineage, access controls, and evidence of review.
• A degree in Accounting.
• Minimum of eight years of relevant experience in accounting, financial reporting, and tax.
• At least three years of experience leading teams and managing the close and external audits.
• Experience working in a regulated Mexican financial institution.
• Practical knowledge of regulatory accounting and reporting.
• Strong understanding of IFRS.
• Experience in preparing consolidated financial statements for groups with multiple entities.
• Practical experience with Mexican tax regulations.
• Ability to manage transfer pricing and cross-border issues with specialized advisors.
• Proven experience reconciling high volumes of transactions across operational systems, banks, subledgers, and the general ledger.
• Proficient in Excel or Google Sheets.
• Hands-on experience with ERP systems.
• Fluent in Spanish and possesses advanced professional English skills.
• Capable of discussing technical accounting and audit matters and preparing written explanations for international stakeholders.
• Demonstrated history of delivering accurate closes and achieving audit milestones under tight deadlines.
• Direct experience with IFPE, SoFiPo payments, or consumer and SME lending, particularly with IFRS 9 and loan portfolio reconciliations is advantageous.
• Experience with UK group audits and statutory accounts, financing trusts, warehouse facilities, or other structured lending arrangements is a plus.
• Familiarity with Oracle NetSuite, Simetrik, SQL, or business intelligence platforms is beneficial.
• Experience with SOFIPOs or banking accounting and regulatory reporting, acquisitions, goodwill impairments, or employee stock option plans is advantageous.
