Head of Accounting

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Sri Lanka.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of accounting services across a varied portfolio of client accounts and entities.

• Oversee the complete accounting lifecycle from client onboarding to bookkeeping, closing, reporting, and ongoing assistance.

• Ensure the accuracy and timely completion of client deliverables.

• Act as a trusted financial partner to client founders and leadership teams.

• Convert financial data into actionable insights for clients.

• Manage daily bookkeeping tasks, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, general ledger maintenance, transaction coding, and financial documentation.

• Supervise monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes.

• Execute and oversee account and bank reconciliations.

• Prepare and review financial statements in compliance with applicable GAAP and/or IFRS standards.

• Analyze financial performance, trends, discrepancies, and risks.

• Present financial data to client leadership.

• Develop scalable closing and reporting procedures.

• Establish internal controls, accounting policies, financial procedures, and governance standards.

• Coordinate tax compliance, regulatory filings, and external audit requirements.

• Collaborate with external tax advisors and auditors.

• Monitor cash flow, liquidity, banking operations, working capital, and short-term liquidity.

• Assist clients with cash management and financial decision-making.

• Manage and enhance cloud accounting systems such as QuickBooks Online and Xero.

• Assess, select, and implement accounting or ERP solutions.

• Create scalable workflows, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and operational processes.

• Optimize manual processes while ensuring consistency, accuracy, and data integrity.

• Utilize AI tools for accounting and finance workflows, analysis, reporting, documentation, and automation.

• Validate the accuracy of AI-generated financial outputs.

• Establish and expand the accounting service line.

• Determine the future structure and resource needs of the accounting team.

• Mentor and potentially recruit and manage accounting team members.

• Collaborate closely with client founders, business founders, finance professionals, external advisors, and the Operations Manager.

• Engage in in-person training programs during the initial 3.5 weeks.


⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 6 years of progressive accounting experience.

• Ideally, experience in multi-client, multi-entity, fractional CFO, outsourced accounting, or professional services environments.

• Extensive hands-on knowledge of bookkeeping, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, general ledger management, reconciliations, month-end closing, and financial statement preparation.

• Proficiency in preparing, reviewing, and analyzing financial statements in accordance with GAAP and/or IFRS.

• Experience in establishing internal controls, accounting policies, financial procedures, and supporting tax, regulatory, and audit requirements.

• Strong understanding of cash management, banking, working capital, and liquidity management.

• Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks Online, Xero, or similar cloud accounting platforms.

• Capability to evaluate and implement financial systems.

• Comfortable working directly with founders and senior leadership, translating financial data into clear recommendations and insights.

• Proven ability to build accounting processes and SOPs from scratch and enhance operational efficiency.

• Ability to operate independently and remain accountable without established processes or constant oversight.

• Experience in utilizing AI tools for finance workflows, analysis, documentation, reporting, or automation.

• Strong proficiency in written and verbal English.

• Ability to clearly communicate complex financial information to both finance and non-finance stakeholders.

• Willingness to work a split shift with some overlap with the client’s time zone.

• Participation in in-person training during the first 3.5 weeks is expected.
